INTRODUCING BAREFOOT BOOKS' YOUNG FICTION!
"Wouldn't you rather be free, just for a day, than spend a lifetime in a cage?"
It’s the summer of 1966 and Mao Zedong’s communist regime is about to move to a new level. Little Leap Forward lives in Beijing, with his mother, brother, and four older sisters. When he is not running errands or attending school, he loves to play the flute and to fly kites.
One day, Little Leap Forward and his best friend capture a small yellow bird. Little Leap Forward wants her to accompany him on his flute – but behind the bars of her bamboo cage, she is not happy. What will he do – persist with his experiment or set her free?

Buy a Book, Plant a Tree Building on
our mission to encourage children to embrace the world around them, Barefoot has
made a commitment to "Go Green". Part of that dedication is that we
now print our books and catalogs on ancient forest friendly paper and ensure
that all marketing items are made of recycled or recyclable material.
"Ancient forest friendly" means that our paper suppliers are
obligated to replant trees that they have harvested, and that they do not
damage rainforests or other ancient woodlands. In an effort
to build on this initiative of sustainability, we have formed an alliance with
another "Green Business",Eco-Libris. Eco-Libris partners with organizations that
work in developing countries to plant trees. These planting efforts help
communities in these countries move toward a sustainable future by insuring that
each tree is planted where it provides significant value for both the environment
and the local community. Barefoot Books Stallholders can now offer wonderful
Eco-Libris Stickers to display on your books! The stickers are $1 and for each
sticker purchased, Eco-Libris plants 1.3 trees (so at least one survives). Display
your stickers proudly to show how truly committed you are to caring for our
planetary home! Please drop me a line if you are interested!
Barefoot Books. Founded
in 1993 by two working mothers, Barefoot Books is an independent
business based in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the US and Bath in
England. The company enjoys an international reputation for the quality
of its products, and for the importance it places on creativity, diversity, and an acceptance of the world's many traditions. If you believe that the children in your life deserve the best, you have come to the right place.
As a mother and a global community member, my goal in life is to teach
my children to make decisions that help bring the world to a better
place. I love these books because they are directly in line with this
purpose. I hope Barefoot can help you bring this learning opportunity
to your family
I invite you to give the gift of literacy and encourage you to consider
Barefoot Books for all occasions and in celebration of each and every
beautiful day. Fund Raising with Barefoot Barefoot is clean from commercialized reading. Our dedication to
art and story make us the perfect choice
for the educational setting. Why should a school settle for books about
commercialized toys, movies and characters? Contrary to common
assumptions, the love of reading is deeper than connecting with a
popular character. Children engage in story that cultivates their sense
of wonderment!
